Words to live by...

I came across this quote and just had to post it for you all. Anyone who knows me and has ever spent any time in my kitchen knows that measuring ingredients or God forbid following a recipe makes my brain itch. The very recipes that are posted on this site are a great labor of love. I was never one to record my recipes. My mother didn't keep a recipe box nor did my Nana. Prior to this site, the lion's share of my family's favorite dishes came from our hearts and were stored only in the heads of those who prepared them.

It is only now, after years of pleading by my sweet husband, some persistent friends and new family members that I have agreed to write down some of these recipes that have brought our family countless full bellies and infinite warm hearts over the years. It is my sincere hope that in sharing these with you all they will bring you even just a fraction of the deep love and lasting memories they have brought us.

In a nutshell, I am proud of my inability to follow a recipe. I'm forever grateful to my mother, grandmother (Nana) and aunts for teaching me to cook passionately instead of precisely.

If God had intended us to follow recipes, He wouldn't have given us grandmothers.

So true! We must have a genetic inability to follow a recipe. :) Remember my so wonderfully measured out recipe for baked potato salad? A handful of this, a pinch of that... However, I am excited to see you posting delicious recipes. They sound fantastic!

I don't think I could ever recreate something of my grandmothers even with the recipe... they have a special touch :)
