What's Cooking- Turkey Burgers with Pepper Jack and Carmelized Onions

This is a quick fix for a healthy and wholesome weeknight meal. For my Chowbabies that are currently doing low carb diets- just skip the bun and the bread crumbs and enjoy a protein packed dinner!

Serves 4
1 lb ground turkey meat
1 egg
½ c bread crumbs
½ tbsp garlic powder
½ tsp of cayenne pepper
Salt & pepper
1 c store bought bbq sauce
1 large onion
Hamburger buns
Monterey pepper jack cheese

Combine ground turkey, egg, bread crumb, garlic powder, salt & pepper, cayenne and ½ c bbq sauce to a large bowl. Mix using your hands until incorporated but don’t over work the meat. The mixture should be tight enough to form patties, if it appears to soft, add a little more bread crumb.
Divide meat into 4 equal pieces and form into patties. Spray a fry pan with non-stick cooking spray and cook patties over medium heat for about 8 minutes a side or until cooked thru.
Meanwhile, slice onion into rings. Heat 1 tbsp EVOO in a sauté pan. Add onions and cook over medium heat until light brown and soft.
Just before removing burgers from heat, brush with the remaining bbq sauce. Put burgers on buns and top slice of Monterey pepper jack cheese and a scoop of onions. Garnish with lettuce, tomatoes or toppings of your choice.
